Scarless Cosmetic Surgery
“In our fast-paced society, a swift recovery is an important criteria for many clients,” says Dr Tan Ying Chien, Consultant Plastic Surgeon from SW1 Clinic. On top of having scars that are strategically concealed by the surgeon, “scarless” surgeries also have less downtime. “We are expecting to see more of these stealthy surgeries as many treatment seekers are looking to be Instagram-ready and back in work in as little time as possible,” added Dr Tan.
According to Consultant Plastic Surgeon Dr Chia Hui Ling, the top 3 scarless surgeriesat SW1 Plastic Surgery Clinic are eye bag surgery, “closed” rhinoplasty and buccal fat removal. Nothing steals the life out of your face more than dark eye circlesand eye bags. “Orbital fat, responsible for those pesky undereye baggage,” explains Dr Chia, “is cleverly removed through the inner eye lining (also known as the transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty) and leaves no visible scar.”

For rhinoplasty, the “closed” technique means that the plastic surgeon performs the surgery via an incision hidden within the nostril/s. Closed rhinoplastyis technically more challenging and it is crucial to find a surgeontrained in this technique if you are planning a scarless nose job. In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, this technique will deliver results similar to an “open rhinoplasty”method, from raising the nasal bridgeto correcting a deviated nose to refining the nose tip, yet with less downtime.

A common complaint surgeons hear regularly at cosmetic surgery clinics, from both men and women, is a broad or round face. Buccal fat removal is an increasingly popular surgery at Dr Chia’s practice. Using a scarless technique, the fat is removed through an incision hidden inside the mouth. A slimmer and sculpted jawline can be achieved within an hour under local anaesthesia. It’s no wonder this simple procedure is gaining popularity fast.

Synergising Surgery with Technology
In the coming year, Dr Chia anticipates that she will be enhancing more of her surgeries with technology. Plastic surgeons at SW1 are no stranger to this synergism, and have been marrying the latest technological advances into their delicate cosmetic surgeries to enhance clients’ results. Energy devices using ultrasound, laser, radiofrequency or LED Red has the ability to make surgery more effective, fine tune the surgical results and/or reduce the downtime and side effects.

Dr Chia regularly combines energy devices with her scarless surgeries. Leaving no skin scar means that loose eyelid skin and sagging cheek tissues are not addressed in transconjunctival blepharoplasty and buccal fat removal surgeries, respectively. “I often complement my scarless lower eyelid surgery with skin resurfacing using SmartX Lite laser to tighten the skin and Nanofat Injection to remove dark eye circles,” says Dr Chia. Another perfect pairing, according to Dr Chiais buccal fat removal and Ulthera. Cheek bulk is reduced surgically and cheek skin is lifted and tightened using ultrasonic energy, to give achieve a smooth V-line. Another way of making medical technology work for you after surgery is to tap into the healing powers of LED Red treatment to speed up the recovery time and scar reduction with a Scar Prevention Laser Program.
